Application of organic silicone rubber in new energy vehicles

Organic silicone rubber has the advantages of high and low temperature resistance, electrical insulation, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, and physiological inertness. According to these characteristics, different types of power battery markets, and customer needs, organic silicone companies have developed products of various shapes. The most common types of products currently on the market include: thermally conductive potting/grouting agent, foamed silicone, thermally conductive gasket, thermally conductive silicone grease, and thermally conductive mud.

In new energy vehicle accidents, the fire or explosion of lithium batteries is the main reason. There are two ways to reduce and even eliminate such accidents. One is to change the lithium battery itself, and the other is to use organic silica gel as a potting material to play a role in fire and flame retardancy.

The role of organic silica gel in new energy vehicle batteries mainly includes the following three points:

1. Heat conduction and heat dissipation, balance temperature. The normal working temperature of lithium battery is -20℃-60℃, and the temperature is too high or too low to cause problems. After using organic silica gel, according to the different PACK process, the organic silica gel is poured and arranged in the gap around the battery pack to add a barrier to the battery pack. The battery pack can still work stably even in an overheated or cold environment.

2. Flame-retardant and explosion-proof. When a certain single cell in the battery pack explodes due to extreme failure, the silicone potting compound can isolate oxygen and play a protective role, protecting the other cells of the battery pack from being affected, and not causing the entire battery pack to explode and burn.

3. Insulation and waterproof. The physiological inertia of organic silica gel guarantees its compatibility with other materials during the PACK process. In addition, the insulation characteristics can protect the key electronic devices, cells and bus bars inside the battery, thereby avoiding battery short circuit and preventing the risk of power surge and battery fire. In addition, silicone is water-repellent, and companies have also developed waterproof products using this characteristic. When dealing with harsh environments such as typhoons and heavy rains, silicone can put on a "waterproof suit" for the battery.
