There are so many uses of organic silicon. Do you really know (1)

When it comes to organic silicon, many people have no idea. "I have only heard about silicon in Silicon Valley, and I know what silicon is used in computers. It's really unheard of." Perhaps when most people outside the industry hear about organic silicon, their first reaction is this. Indeed, organosilicon is not as widely known as plastics, metals and other materials, but it is as widely used as other materials and products in our lives. Today, let's talk about the organic silicon in our production and life without talking about chemical formula or technology.

Military use:
In other words, the exploration and research of organosilicon compounds can be traced back to the 18th century. However, the rapid development of organosilicon was due to its use as special materials for military equipment such as aircraft, rockets, tanks, etc. in the Second World War. Organosilicon material is a typical semi-inorganic and semi-organic polymer material with unique properties of high and low temperature resistance, oxygen resistance, light resistance and weather aging resistance. Therefore, it is widely used in the fastening of aircraft structural parts, resistors, surface sealing of radio electronic equipment, etc.

It's not intuitive enough to just say that. Let's take an example. In other words, when Germany invaded the former Soviet Union, it was in the midst of a hundred-year severe winter. All tanks and armored equipment in the two countries became a pile of scrap iron due to the freezing of oil and gas required for operation. In the face of this harsh situation, Soviet scientists found that a mixture of a substance and oil can prevent freezing, thus taking advantage in the war against Germany. This substance is what we call silicone oil today.

Aerospace:
"This is only a small step for me, but it is a big step for the whole human race." This sentence is known to the people all over the world with the success of the United States landing on the moon in 1969. The American astronaut Armstrong left the first human footprint on the surface of the moon, and the sole of the boots he was wearing was made of silicone rubber! Of course, today, the application of silicone materials in aerospace is more extensive. Instrument oil, damping oil, special hydraulic oil, and advanced coating are inseparable from silicone materials.
Just as many scientific and technological products have been popularized in life due to military war, so have organosilicon materials! Due to its excellent performance, organosilicon materials have been rapidly applied to all aspects of production and life after World War II! It can be said that from opening our glasses in the morning to going to bed at night, we will deal with silicone products all day long.

Cosmetics:
The use of silicone in cosmetics began with the hand cream produced by Dow Corning in 1950. Today, organosilicon has been successfully applied to perfume, hair wax, hair conditioner, lipstick, shaving cream, deodorant, eye shadow cream, nail polish, sunscreen and other cosmetics, with hundreds of categories. When taking a shower in the morning, the silicone oil contained in shampoo and hair conditioner makes our hair smoother, and the silicone oil contained in the skin cream applied on the face can cover the face with a thin gauze mask, so as to maintain moisture and protect the skin; The oily foundation make-up, nail polish, sunscreen and eye shadow cream contain cyclic dimethylsiloxane, so the skin does not feel cool when volatilizing, and there is no residue.

In recent years, the application of organosilicon in the field of daily chemical industry has developed rapidly and has become one of the main applications of organosilicon. Almost all personal care products contain products containing siloxane, and such functional raw materials with wide applicability continue to expand their application fields with the advent of new products. Due to its easy-to-adjust functional properties and excellent sensory properties, and its use is beneficial to the environment and consumer safety, siloxane is increasingly being used to partially or completely replace the useful ingredients of organic raw materials in cosmetics and cleaning products.

Textile printing and dyeing:
The towels used to wipe the body after bathing, the clothes we wear and other textiles can not be separated from silicone materials.
Polydimethylsiloxane, as the earliest organic silicon used for printing and dyeing auxiliaries, has greatly improved the washability of clothes; Hydroxypolysiloxane improves the wrinkle resistance of clothing; Polyether modified silicone improves the antistatic ability of the cloth. Fluorine-based modified organosilicon softener has the effect of deepening fabric dyeing!

Therefore, the soft towel, smooth shirt and anti-static clothing all depend on the strong silicone material.
