LSR molding: predict and solve problems before production

Nowadays, the demand for liquid silicone rubber (LSR) products is growing, especially in the medical and baby care fields. Its high thermal stability and good physical properties make more and more applications choose to use LSR. material.

However, LSR molding is a challenge. In order to maximize profits and reduce waste, it is important to have a clear understanding of the entire molding process and to predict possible problems, including product flow and cure properties, as well as heating conditions during the molding process.

French CVA Silicone Co., Ltd. cooperated with SIGMA to better understand the application of its products. This case is intended to create a four-hole silicone nipple on the mold. Responsible by SIGMA engineer Denis Mercier, whose task is to analyze mold performance and the resulting product quality issues. The challenge is to analyze the complete mold performance and predict the quality issues that may arise during the production process.

In the simulation, the mold was started from room temperature and "heated" by a heating rod until the production conditions were reached. In fact, once the simulation begins, several molding cycles are "running" one after another, by which the mold temperature is stabilized, as in actual production. After this stage, the forming analysis of the filling, holding and curing stages is carried out (Fig. 1).
