Application of fumed silica in adhesives

Hits: 513 img

Gaseous silica is an artificially synthesized nanoscale white powder that can improve the viscosity, rheological properties, and mechanical properties of adhesives and sealants, prevent sagging and collapse of the adhesive during the curing process, and is an ideal functional additive.

After being uniformly dispersed in the adhesive and sealant system, gas-phase silica can form a network of silica aggregates. The aggregates form hydrogen bonds with polymer molecules through the silanol groups on the surface, limiting the fluidity of the system and increasing its viscosity, thereby thickening it. At the same time, under the action of shear force, the hydrogen bonds and silica network are destroyed, resulting in a decrease in system viscosity, that is, a thixotropic effect, which facilitates construction. Once the shear force is eliminated, the silica network and hydrogen bonds are re formed, effectively preventing settlement during product storage and sagging during use.
