Platinum catalyst is a catalytic agent with platinum (Pt) as its active component, playing a crucial role in the crosslinking reaction of silicone rubber. In addition-cure silicone rubber systems, platinum catalysts effectively promote the addition reaction between vinyl siloxane and hydrosiloxane, enabling silicone rubber to cure rapidly at room temperature or under heat, forming a durable and mechanically strong elastomer.
This catalyst offers advantages such as high efficiency, low toxicity, and strong controllability. Compared to traditional organic peroxide catalyst systems, platinum catalysts do not produce by-products, reducing volatile compounds in silicone rubber products and improving purity and stability. As a result, they are widely used in medical-grade silicone rubber, food-contact materials, electronic encapsulation, and precision mold manufacturing.
Additionally, platinum catalysts enhance silicone rubber’s weather resistance, anti-yellowing properties, and transparency, making them ideal for high-end optical silicones, LED encapsulation materials, and aerospace components. Although platinum catalysts are relatively expensive, their efficiency and superior performance make them indispensable in the production of high-end silicone products. With advancements in technology and catalytic research, more efficient and cost-effective platinum catalytic systems may emerge in the future.
