Hydroxyl fluorosilicone oil, or hydroxyl-terminated polymethyl trifluoropropyl siloxane, is a fluorine-modified polymer with active hydroxyl end-capping. Unlike ordinary methyl or vinyl fluorosilicone oils, hydroxyl fluorosilicone oil not only retains the signature oil resistance, solvent resistance, high/low-temperature resistance (-60°C to 200°C), and extremely low surface tension of fluorosilicone materials, but the hydroxyl groups at both ends of its molecular chain also endow it with unique chemical reactivity. This transparent or slightly milky viscous liquid has a density even greater than seawater, demonstrating extreme water repellency and excellent resistance to radiation and salt spray.
In the synthesis and processing system of fluorosilicone rubber, hydroxyl fluorosilicone oil is a crucial structural control agent. During the mixing process, it effectively prevents the "structuring" phenomenon caused by filler interactions in fluorosilicone rubber, ensuring that the compound maintains good processing fluidity and physical-mechanical properties even after long-term storage. Furthermore, low-viscosity hydroxyl fluorosilicone oil can serve as an active diluent, reacting with hydrogen-containing silicone oil to produce foamed fluorosilicone rubber, or be used to prepare deacidified or dealcoholized one/two-component room-temperature vulcanized fluorosilicone sealants, greatly expanding the application forms of fluorosilicone materials.
With its excellent water repellency and density greater than seawater, hydroxyl fluorosilicone oil also demonstrates irreplaceable value in specialized protection fields. It is commonly used as a protective fluid for ship instrument pointers, ensuring the normal operation of precision instruments in harsh marine environments. Meanwhile, leveraging the reactivity of its hydroxyl groups, it can undergo grafting or crosslinking reactions with other polymer materials to alter the surface properties of substrates. It is widely applied in electronic/electrical encapsulation, textile finishing, and the modification of various specialized adhesives, serving as a critical hub connecting the upstream and downstream of the fluorosilicone material industry chain.
