Condensation-cure silicone rubber has long been the workhorse of the mold-making industry, particularly for large-scale and complex replication projects. Cured using tin salts, this two-component system undergoes a chemical reaction that releases small-molecule by-products, typically resulting in a slight, predictable shrinkage rate of about 0.2% to 0.3%. Despite this shrinkage, its outstanding flowability and low viscosity allow it to effortlessly encapsulate intricate textures and complex geometries. This makes it highly favored for reproducing architectural elements, large statues, and detailed metal crafts where capturing surface fidelity is paramount.

One of the most significant advantages of condensation-cure silicone is its operational flexibility and cost-effectiveness. It is highly tolerant of various casting materials, including plaster, gypsum, epoxy resins, polyurethanes, and waxes. Additionally, it can be easily applied using brush-on or spray-on techniques for large, multi-part molds, often reinforced with fiberglass or burlap to create a rigid mother mold. Its excellent tear resistance and ease of demolding ensure that delicate castings can be removed without damaging either the mold or the finished product. This durability allows for multiple casting cycles, maximizing production efficiency for artisans and manufacturers alike.

However, users must be mindful of its specific operational characteristics to achieve optimal results. The curing speed is directly influenced by the amount of catalyst added and the ambient temperature, requiring careful measurement to balance working time and demolding speed. Because the curing process releases by-products, adequate ventilation is necessary during the initial curing phase. Furthermore, it is crucial to allow the mold to fully cure and rest for at least 24 hours before use to ensure maximum mechanical strength and prevent premature degradation.
