Organosilicon, that is, organosilicon compounds, refers to compounds that contain Si-C bonds and at least one organic group is directly connected to silicon atoms. Traditionally, compounds that connect organic groups to silicon atoms through oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen are often regarded as organosilicon compounds. Among them, polysiloxane with siloxane bond (- Si-O-Si -) as skeleton is the most numerous, most deeply studied and most widely used type of silicone compounds, accounting for more than 90% of the total dosage.

Silicone products mainly include silicone rubber, silicone resin, silicone oil and silane coupling agent. Among them, silicone rubber is the most widely used and the largest output. Therefore, this paper focuses on silicone rubber.

Silicone rubber has both organic groups and inorganic structure, and has the properties of both organic and inorganic materials. Therefore, it has excellent properties such as high and low temperature resistance, electrical insulation, oxidation stability, weather resistance, non-toxic and tasteless, physiological inertia, low surface tension and low surface energy. As we all know, material structure determines its properties. Therefore, we understand why silicone rubber has these excellent properties from the perspective of analyzing the structure of silicone rubber.

First of all, the main chain of silicone rubber is - si-o-structure, in which the silicone oxygen bond energy is high, which requires high energy to break. Therefore, silicone rubber has excellent high temperature resistance and can work for a long time at 180oC. On the other hand, the main chain of polysiloxane is helical, and the methyl groups on it are distributed outward, which hinders the further aggregation of molecular chains. Therefore, the intermolecular force is weak and the flexibility of molecular chains is good. Therefore, polysiloxane has excellent low temperature resistance and can generally work at - 55oc. When an appropriate amount of phenyl is introduced, its high and low temperature resistance will be further improved. In addition, the characteristics of good flexibility of silicone rubber molecular chain and weak intermolecular interaction are also the main reasons for its low surface energy and low surface tension.
