Classification and application of silicone rubber

Hits: 545 img

Silicone rubber is a kind of semi inorganic and semi organic compound whose main chain is composed of silicon oxygen bonds and side groups are composed of organic groups. It has excellent properties such as high and low temperature resistance, weather aging resistance, water resistance, electrical insulation, biocompatibility, etc. It has been widely used in aerospace, transportation, chemical industry, construction, electronics and electrical appliances and other fields.

Silicone rubber is an elastomer formed by vulcanizing various types of siloxanes with high molecular weight as raw rubber, mixed with fillers and additives under certain conditions. According to the different curing methods and conditions, it can be divided into two categories: heat vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV) and room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (RTV).

HTV rubber has a large application field and a wide demand. The most common basic polymer is polymethylvinyl siloxane, which has good electrical insulation, water resistance, impact resistance, vibration resistance and other properties. The products are widely used in such industries as keys, sealing rings, extrusion tubes, cots, gaskets, conductive black particles, anode caps, wires and cables, insulators, self-lubricating oil seals, heat resistance, fire protection, sports equipment and medical care.

The basic polymer of RTV rubber is usually hydroxy terminated polydimethylsiloxane or polymethylvinylsiloxane with low molar weight. RTV rubber can be generally divided into two types: single component and two-component. Silicone rubber with high mechanical properties has the advantages of low shrinkage, no by-products, etc., and is commonly used in the field of molding; Low mechanical properties, almost no functional filler, excellent transparency, electrical properties, weather resistance, etc., are widely used in medical and health, electronic industry and other fields.
Various fillers and additives are usually added to silicone rubber, such as adding carbon black and aerosilicon to strengthen the product, adding antioxidant to prevent too fast aging, etc. Various kinds of filler additives can be added into silicone rubber in proper proportion to improve various properties of silicone rubber and meet different production and use needs.
