Compared with traditional polymer materials, silicone rubber has excellent properties such as high and low temperature resistance, weather resistance, electrical insulation, and a soft and smooth feel, but its mechanical strength is poor. Therefore, in some situations where both sufficient mechanical strength and the aforementioned properties are required, or where silicone rubber is required to play a sealing role, such as inside phone cases and certain electronic components, silicone rubber and other polymer materials need to be used together, and the two need to have good adhesion.

However, silicone rubber has a low surface energy and its adhesion to other materials is often weak. Therefore, in the early stage, the process of applying a primer at the interface between the two is often used. This method can form a good enough adhesion between the two, and once silicone rubber is adhered, it cannot be torn off. However, this method often requires the use of solvents and requires first brushing a primer on the plastic material or soaking the plastic material in the primer solution, which may cause environmental pollution and low efficiency. Therefore, the development trend in this field is to achieve good adhesion between silicone rubber and other polymer materials without the need for primer.

This type of silicone rubber can be called self-adhesive silicone rubber. Currently, the main methods to improve the self-adhesiveness of silicone rubber include: 1. surface treatment of the substrate (plasma treatment, corona discharge treatment, etc.); 2. Change the structure of organic siloxanes (introducing alkenyl, epoxy, ester groups, etc. on the siloxane chain); 3. Add tackifiers (small molecule compounds or oligomers containing alkoxy, alkoxy, epoxy, ester groups, etc.). The first method, like brushing the primer, will reduce efficiency, while the second method requires the introduction of corresponding functional groups in the raw adhesive, making it difficult to synthesize. The third method can be synthesized or added separately, with simple operation and high efficiency. Therefore, this method is currently commonly used.

With the country's emphasis on environmental protection, people's demand for efficiency improvement, and the emergence of various refined products, self-adhesive liquid silicone rubber will show greater advantages in more and more occasions compared to the combination of bottom coating and silicone rubber, and will inevitably occupy an increasing market share!
