Popularize what silicone is from the composition of silicone materials

Hits: 279 img

Silicone is both familiar and unfamiliar to us. Familiarity is because silicone products are widely present in all aspects of our production, and unfamiliarity is because it is usually difficult for us to pay attention to the presence of silicone. Below, we will introduce the material composition of silicone and what silicone is.

1、 Silicone material
Silica gel (Silica gel; Silica) alias: oxidized silica gel or silicic acid gel, is a highly active adsorption material, which is an amorphous substance, and its chemical molecular formula is mSiO2 · nH2O; It does not react with any substance except strong alkali and hydrofluoric acid, is insoluble in water and any solvent, is non-toxic, odorless, and has stable chemical properties. Various types of silica gel form different microporous structures due to their different manufacturing methods. The chemical composition and physical structure of silica gel determine that it has many characteristics that other similar materials cannot replace: high adsorption performance, good thermal stability, stable chemical properties, high mechanical strength, etc.

2、 Composition of silicone
The basic component of silicone is silica, which has a microporous structure and a rigid skeleton structure in physical properties. It is wear-resistant, has high compressive strength, and does not undergo deliquescence or swelling after adsorption. It is an amorphous structural form of silicon dioxide, which is inert, non-toxic in chemical properties, and structurally stable.

2、 Classification of silicone
Silicone can be divided into two categories based on its properties and components: organic silicone and inorganic silicone.
Inorganic silica gel is a highly active adsorption material, usually prepared by reacting sodium silicate with sulfuric acid and undergoing a series of post-treatment processes such as aging and acid foaming. Silicone is an amorphous substance with the chemical formula mSiO2. nH2O. Insoluble in water and any solvent, non-toxic and odorless, chemically stable, and does not react with any substance except strong bases and hydrofluoric acid. It is used as a desiccant, humidity regulator, deodorant, etc. in households; Industrial use as oil and hydrocarbon decolorizing agent, catalyst carrier, pressure swing adsorbent, etc; Fine chemical separation and purification agents, beer stabilizers, coating thickeners, toothpaste friction agents, matting agents, etc.

Organic silicone is a type of organic silicon compound, which refers to a compound containing Si-C bonds and at least one organic group directly connected to silicon atoms. Traditionally, compounds that connect organic groups to silicon atoms through oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, etc. are also considered organic silicon compounds. Among them, polysiloxanes composed of silicon oxygen bonds (Si O-Si -) as the backbone are the most numerous, deeply studied, and widely used category of organic silicon compounds, accounting for over 90% of the total dosage.
