What is the difference between gas-phase silicone rubber and precipitated silicone rubber

Liquid silicone is divided into two types: gas-phase silicone and precipitated silicone. There are certain differences in the production process, product performance, and application range between these two types of silicone. Below, we will take you to a deeper understanding of the differences between gas-phase silicone and precipitated silicone.

1、 Production process
Gas phase production uses silicon tetrachloride and air combustion to obtain silica with a fineness of over 1000 mesh. Precipitation production uses sodium silicate added with sulfuric acid to precipitate silica, with a fineness of only 300-400 mesh.

The white carbon black produced by gas-phase method is expensive and not easily hygroscopic. Used as a matting agent in coatings. Precipitation method silica is cheap and easy to absorb moisture. Can only be used for filling and reinforcing rubber and plastic products.

2、 Product performance
When the liquid silicone of the precipitation method is stretched, it will turn white and cannot be stretched too long, while in the gas phase, it will not turn white no matter how it is pulled, and it can be stretched too long without breaking. A good vapor phase adhesive can be pulled up to over 700%, and the transparency of the vapor phase adhesive is higher than that of the precipitation adhesive.

The tensile strength, tear strength, and elongation of silicone rubber reinforced with fumed silica are better than those reinforced with precipitated silica. Transparency of gas phase method. The opacity or translucency of the precipitation method.

The cost of silicone rubber produced by gas-phase method is higher than that produced by precipitation method, so the tensile and tear elongation of gas-phase adhesive with the same hardness is better than that of precipitation adhesive, and its environmental protection index is also higher. Gaseous silica gel is generally added with 10:1 transparent silica gel, while precipitated silica gel is generally added with 1:1 semi transparent silicone rubber.

3、 Scope of use
The vapor phase silicone rubber has good tear resistance, which is applicable to the products in the sleeve, pressure cooker ring, silica gel wire, etc; The sedimentation method of silicone has a relatively good impact life and is suitable for remote control buttons, mobile phone buttons, foot mats, etc.
