What is the difference between liquid silicone and solid silicone?

Hits: 137 img

The silicone we usually refer to has two physical states: one is a flowing liquid; One type is solid. Non solid silicone that can flow like water is called liquid silicone; Of course, liquid silicone has a certain viscosity and usually has a higher density than water, so its fluidity is not as strong as water.
After encountering curing agents or catalysts, liquid silicone undergoes a curing reaction, which can solidify into solid silicone with different hardness and performance depending on the type of liquid silicone.

Liquid silicone can be divided into:

1. Mold silicone
Mold liquid silicone is a new type of molding material, and silicone molds made from mold silicone have significant advantages in production efficiency and production cost compared to steel molds. Nowadays, mold silicone has been widely used in the toy and gift industry, medical, electronic, mechanical fields, character reproduction, home building decoration and decoration industry, unsaturated resin handicraft industry, simulated animal and plant sculpture, Buddha carving handicraft and other industries for mold production.

2. Transfer printing silicone
Transfer printing liquid silicone is used to make transfer printing heads, mainly used for printing plastic toys, electroplating products, electronic toys, trademarks, and irregular patterns. Transfer printing adhesive head is to use the pattern on the steel plate as a carrier through the adhesive head, and then transfer the pattern on the steel plate onto the toy product. The hardness of transfer printing liquid silicone can be controlled by adding silicone oil.

3. Electronic sealing silicone
Electronic sealing liquid silicone is mainly used for sealing electronic products. By using electronic sealing liquid silicone, electronic products can be sealed, waterproof, dustproof, thermally conductive, shockproof, and insulated. In addition, one type of encapsulation adhesive is used for LEDs, which has high transparency and refractive index characteristics.

4. Hand board silicone
Hand board liquid silicone, also known as the first version of silicone, is usually used to make hand board models. Compared to hand board oil mud, hand board liquid silicone has the characteristics of wear resistance and strong resilience after curing.

5. Silicone adhesive
Silicone adhesive is commonly referred to as glass adhesive, which is also a type of liquid silicone. During the use of silicone adhesive, curing agents are added in an disorderly manner, and when they encounter water molecules in the air, they can solidify into a tough solid, thereby achieving adhesion between glass gaps. The cured silicone adhesive has the characteristics of weather resistance, vibration resistance, moisture resistance, odor resistance, and adaptability to large changes in temperature and cold.

6. Silicone support for clothing signage
After the liquid clothing label is solidified with silicone, we often see clothing merchants' silicone labels. The use of liquid silicone to make clothing signs has the characteristics of good hand feel, wear resistance, and high production efficiency.

7. High temperature silicone
Ordinary high-temperature mold silicone used for making silicone molds can withstand high temperatures between 200 and 300 degrees Celsius, while high-temperature liquid silicone used in industries such as aviation and stamping can work for a long time in environments ranging from 400 ℃ to 1300 ℃ without any performance changes after curing.

8. Human silicone
Human silicone is a type of liquid silicone with low solidification hardness, which is environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and has no adverse effects on human objects. Therefore, it can be implanted into the human body and is usually used for making prosthetics. It can also be used to simulate characters, etc.
