A simple and easy to learn method for making silicone molds

Hits: 31 img

There are three methods for making silicone molds: injection mold, brush mold, and split mold. The appropriate operating process is selected based on the product structure, size, and complexity for mold opening. For example, if we make some small handicrafts ourselves to play with, using injection and brush molding techniques is relatively simple and easy to learn. What is the specific operation to do? Below, the editor will explain it to you.
Preparation materials: mother mold (actual product to be made), brush, mixing rod, release agent (Vaseline), cotton cloth, glass board, mold silicone, wooden square (wooden board), small vacuum machine (you can buy one if you have money, it's okay if you don't have one).

Operation method of injection mold:
1. Clean the mother mold and spray a layer of release agent (Vaseline). If the product is smooth, use a clean cotton cloth dipped in Vaseline to evenly apply it to the mold seed. After the mold seed has fully absorbed Vaseline (about 30 minutes), wipe the mold seed clean with a clean cotton cloth, and ensure it is smooth and transparent. If it is a textured product, simply and evenly apply Vaseline to the mold.

2. Use wooden boards (battens) to form a regular range, create an outer mold, and fix the mold type within the regular range. Ensure that there are no gaps in the outer mold to prevent silicone from overflowing.

After the above work is ready, start mixing silicone. According to the size of the product, a certain amount of silica gel is weighed in a ratio of 100:2-3 (condensation type silica gel ratio) and mixed with the curing agent to stir evenly. A vacuum machine is used for vacuuming and exhausting bubbles (for those without a vacuum machine, the amount of curing agent can be reduced to extend the curing time, so that the remaining bubbles in the silica gel can be naturally eliminated, but this effect is not very ideal!). Attention: Vacuum to -0.01Mpa and hold for 7-8 seconds! Excessive vacuum time can lead to cross-linking reaction of silicone during vacuum pumping.

4. Slowly pour the vacuum filled silicone along the top of the mold into the mold frame, allowing the silicone to flow naturally into each part of the mold. If it does not flow, use an oil brush to brush it in place.

5. After the operation is completed, wait quietly for the silicone gel to fully cure, and it usually takes 6-12 hours for demolding.

Brush mold operation method:
1. Clean the mother mold, use a clean cotton cloth dipped in Vaseline to evenly apply it to the mold seed, and then fix it on the glass plate.

2. According to the size of the product, weigh a certain amount of silicone and curing agent in a ratio of 100:2-3 (condensation type silicone ratio), mix and stir evenly, and use a vacuum pump for vacuum exhaust bubble treatment (if there is no vacuum pump, the remaining bubbles in the silicone can be naturally eliminated by reducing the amount of curing agent added and extending the curing time, but this effect is not very ideal!). Attention: Vacuum to -0.01Mpa and hold for 7-8 seconds! Excessive vacuum time can lead to cross-linking reaction of silicone during vacuum pumping.

3. Evenly brush the well proportioned silicone onto the surface of the mold with a brush, usually several times, depending on the size of the product. After the first brush, wait for about 30 minutes. After the silicone has solidified, brush again, usually 3-4 times.

4. After the silicone is completely cured, remove the outer mold directly from the mold seed and it will be okay!
