Classification and Application of Silicone Rubber

Hits: 11 img

Silicone rubber is a type of semi inorganic and semi organic compound with a main chain composed of silicon oxygen bonds and a side group composed of organic groups. It has excellent properties such as high and low temperature resistance, climate aging resistance, water resistance, electrical insulation, biocompatibility, and has been widely used in fields such as aerospace, transportation, chemical industry, construction, electronics, and other fields.

Silicone rubber mainly uses various types of high molecular weight siloxanes as raw rubber, mixed with fillers and additives, and vulcanized under certain conditions to form an elastomer. According to different vulcanization methods and conditions, it can be divided into two categories: hot vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV) and room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (RTV).

HTV rubber has a wide range of applications and a wide demand. The most common basic polymer is polymethylvinylsiloxane, which has good electrical insulation, water resistance, impact resistance, and vibration resistance. The products are widely used in industries such as buttons, sealing rings, extrusion tubes, rubber rollers, gaskets, conductive black particles, anode caps, wires and cables, insulators, self-lubricating oil seals, heat resistance, fire prevention, sports equipment, and healthcare.

RTV rubber based polymers are usually low-molecular-weight hydroxyl terminated polydimethylsiloxane or polymethylvinylsiloxane. RTV rubber can generally be divided into two types: single component and dual component. Silicone rubber with higher mechanical properties has advantages such as low shrinkage and no by-products, and is commonly used in the field of molding; Low mechanical properties, almost no functional fillers, excellent transparency, electrical properties, weather aging resistance, etc., widely used in fields such as medical and healthcare, electronic industry, etc.

Various fillers and additives are usually added to silicone rubber, such as adding carbon black and silicone to reinforce the product, and adding anti-aging agents to prevent rapid aging. Adding various types of filler additives in appropriate proportions to silicone rubber can improve its various properties and meet different production and usage needs.
