Silicone rubber can be divided into two categories based on its commercial form: blended silicone rubber and liquid silicone rubber. Blended silicone rubber, commonly known as hot vulcanized silicone rubber, is a base material prepared by combining linear high polymerization degree (5000-10000 siloxane structural units) polyorganosiloxane with reinforcing fillers, incremental fillers, and additives that give various properties. When used, it is formed and vulcanized with a vulcanizing agent to produce a product, which belongs to free radical polymerization.

Liquid silicone rubber is different from mixed rubber in that it is an elastic material with self leveling or thixotropic properties, which is based on linear polyorganosiloxane with moderate polymerization degree, and is formulated with crosslinking agents, reinforcing fillers, and other additives. It is initiated by moisture in the air or undergoes vulcanization crosslinking under catalyst heating. Liquid silicone rubber can be divided into two systems based on its vulcanization mechanism: condensation type and addition type.
